On Saturday, an avalanche hit a base camp at Mount Everest, following the earthquake in Nepal that killed an estimated 2,500 people. According to The New York Times, at least 18 people died as a result of the tragic force, and dozens more were seriously injured.

German climber Jost Kobusch was at the scene when it happened, and managed to film the horrifying event. The harrowing video, which was uploaded on Sunday, has already been viewed over 8 million times.

"The ground was shaking from the earthquake and as soon as we saw people running we were running ourselves to save our lives," the caption to the video reads.

At first, you can hear people laughing in the background about the ground "opening up," but the laughter turns into expletive-laden shouts when they see a barrage of snow pummeling towards them.

In just one heart-stopping moment, they manage to get into their tents, and emerge breathing heavily, covered in snow. "Let's go to the kitchen tent," the say, only to find that the tent is gone.
